Bright Futures Fall Party

Our Bright Futures sponsors had a fall party for us today. The students had fun participating in pumpkin bowling and competing to see how many marshmallows they could stack on top of each other. They also enjoyed eating wonderful treats and snacks. We are grateful to have the United Methodist Women our classroom sponsor and appreciate them giving of their time, treasure, and talent.

September 11th

Today we reflected upon the events that took place on this tragic day 14 years ago.  As a class we discussed the importance of September 11th and the sacrifice many first responders made on this particular day.  We honored Troopers of the Missouri State Highway Patrol by making them a book to show our appreciation for what they do. Not only did we have the privilege of giving back to the men and women of this organization, we also were able to have a Trooper in Henry County come speak with us. The kids loved the chance to visit with Trooper Tyler as well as ask questions. We are thankful for all our first responders as well as the men and women who serve our country.

Student of the Month

Congratulations to Chloe for receiving the Student of the Month Award for Respect!

Whew...what a week

Our theme this week was weather, which went along with our reading story, The Storm. We discussed various types of storms and shared many stories. We also completed a project Thursday, that demonstrated our knowledge about different types of clouds. Looking forward to sending this project home, it is currently being displayed in the hallway:)

To go along with our weather theme I read to the kids my favorite book, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. The students really enjoyed the illustrations and imagining what it would be like to have food fall from the sky! After I read we brainstormed and wrote about as class why we would like it to rain food.

We finished Chapter 1 in Math this week, and we will start Chapter 2 over Number Bonds on Tuesday. We will also begin doing word work with short o and learning about Sequence of Events as we read our story Curious George. I am looking forward to lots of learning, but I am first ready to enjoy this long weekend:)

Popsicle Party

Forgot to mention in the last post. Since everyone had green dojo or better for the month of August, they all got popsicles as a reward for their great behavior. Extremely proud of all these kids respect and hard work.  In September the students will be working towards eating lunch outside.

Week 3

We had a great week learning about friendship and main idea in Reading. We worked hard on identifying short a sounds as well as building basic cvc words. In addition to working with various short a words, we reviewed and tried to memorize our sights words (like, and, be, play, with, help)I am very proud of the Spelling scores for this week, lots of 100 percents! In Math we identified number words to 10 and practiced comparing numbers using more, fewer, and the same, as well as greater than and less than. We began our academic centers this week and practiced staying in task, while also rotating from one center to another. This is definitely something that takes practice, but I'm pleased with how well they did with it for the first week. I am also so proud of the kiddos who redeemed their tickets today for coupons. 3 students had 10 tickets today, and I know many were very close to reaching 10. Expecting to handout some more coupons on Monday! Hoping our hard work continues as we enter a short week ahead! Have a lovely weekend everyone:)

First Day Fun

We had an awesome first day in Room 102! We discussed our classroom rules, shared our All About Me bags, and drank some "Jitter Juice," in hopes to get rid of our first day jitters. Our Jitter Juice consisted of Hawaiian Punch and Sprite, and the kids loved it. We also enjoyed sharing what similar and different emotions we had as we began the first day of school.  Looking forward to day 2 :)
